Watch Gilas take on the world at the FIBA OQT via gigafest.smart

Leading mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc. lets you support our Gilas Pilipinas Men’s National Team all the way to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) via real-time streaming through gigafest.smart.

Fresh from their stellar 3-0 performance at the Clark bubble, Gilas program director and head coach Tab Baldwin brings his young 12-man lineup to battle NBA-loaded lineups in Belgrade, Serbia. Gilas is scheduled for games against the host country Serbia and Dominican Republic on July 1, 2:15am, and on July 2, 2:30 am Philippine Standard Time, respectively.

“Gilas gave us so much more during their Clark stint and made the return of live international basketball worth the long wait. Fans like myself live for these kinds of games. The Gilas plot represents the story of the Filipino people and we proudly stand beside them all the way in this journey,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, President and CEO of PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications.

“We are pleased to bring the games directly to our subscribers as the actions happen over gigafest.smart, making sure that Filipinos get to witness the games in Serbia in real time and be able to express our unwavering support online for our young, highly-capable and passionate national team,” added Panlilio, who is also the President of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

The Philippines is banking on the momentum courtesy of Gilas’ six-game sweep of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. Gilas needs to score an upset in Belgrade to have a shot at the knockout semis against any of the following teams—Puerto Rico, Italy, or Senegal. The top two teams will move to play in Group B of Men’s Basketball at the Tokyo Olympics.

Philippines’ fastest mobile data network

Basketball fans can get the best streaming experience with Smart, the country’s fastest mobile data network as reported by third-party mobile internet analytics firms such as Ookla® and Opensignal.

Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, named Smart as the country’s fastest mobile data network in the second half of 2020 after it achieved a Speed Score™ of 24.99, with average speeds of 20.08 Mbps for download, and 7.42 Mbps for upload, based on 3,915,679 user-initiated tests taken with Speedtest®. Ookla has also cited Smart as the country’s fastest mobile data network for three years in a row now.

On the other hand, Smart has scored a rare sweep in the April 2021 Philippines Mobile Network Experience Awards* by independent analytics firm Opensignal, beating the competition across all metrics in three essential aspects of service: Coverage (4G Coverage Experience, 4G Availability), Speed (Download and Upload Speed) and Experience (Games, Video and Voice App). This is the first time an operator in the Philippines won decisively in all categories.

Smart also enables subscribers to enjoy their favorite content seamlessly with Smart 5G, the fastest 5G network in the Philippines according to Ookla. Based on consumer-initiated tests taken using Speedtest® by Ookla, Smart has consistently posted the fastest 5G speeds for Q1 2021, with median download speeds of 190 Mbps – more than double the competition’s speeds for the same period.
