  • Rep. Jamie Raskin said Ted Cruz is a “shame” on Harvard Law School for suggesting Biden’s potential impeachment.
  • Cruz previously said House Republicans could impeach Biden in part due to Trump’s impeachments.
  • Biden already faces articles of impeachment.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, slammed Sen. Ted Cruz for musing earlier this week that a Republican-controlled House could impeach President Joe Biden.

“What a pathetic, sordid spectacle to see Ted Cruz utter words like that,” Raskin said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I think he is a graduate of Harvard Law School and he is a shame on my alma mater when he speaks like that.”

Cruz suggested on his podcast that Biden could face impeachment if Republicans retake the House this November. Republicans are likely to retake the majority given the historically bruising nature of midterm elections for parties that control the White House. Other Republicans have also talked about impeaching Biden, who faced articles of impeachment the day after he was sworn into office.

Cruz, who indeed attended Harvard Law School and later worked on the legal team for George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign, claimed that Democrats “weaponized” impeachment by impeaching former President Donald Trump twice.

“This is a guy who supported the impeachment of Bill Clinton for one lie for one act of sex, but he couldn’t bring himself to support the impeachment and conviction of Donald Trump for inciting a violent insurrection against his own government,” Raskin said.

Raskin served as an impeachment manager for Trump’s second impeachment when the House charged the president for inciting the deadly January 6 insurrection. Trump was later acquitted by the Senate despite both his impeachment and potential conviction garnering the most bipartisan support of any impeachment effort in US history.

Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
