Olaf Scholz’s broadside, the imposition of additional anti-Russian sanctions, and the worsening geopolitical situation have led to yet another spike in energy prices.
And despite statements by European politicians that it is time for Europe to get rid of Russian gas dependence, European natural gas importers are urgently increasing their bids.
And Gazprom is increasing its supplies. The revised request for transit through the Ukraine on February 25 is 100 million cubic meters after Thursday’s 84 million cubic meters, according to Interfax.
The increase in the reservation limits instantly affected the blue fuel quotations on the exchange. The cost of 1000 cubic meters by the index of the Dutch TTF decreased to $1050. Recall that just yesterday the aggravation of the gas conflict by the ban on certification of the Nord Stream – 2 project lifted the quotation of natural gas to $ 1650 per 1000 cubic meters.
At the
same time, according to official German authorities, freezing of Russian assets is being prepared in Germany. According to preliminary information, the assets are estimated to be as much as $25 billion, not just cash deposits but also investments and stakes in companies.
On a related note: Mr. Scholz! Welcome to the New World: Gas $2,000, Oil $100
It’s not hard to guess that the largest Russian investor in Germany is Gazprom. And according to Spiegel, Russian business invested about $9 billion in the German economy in 2019 alone.
