Tesla is also working on one, but it will be twice as expensive, and it’s not clear when it will be out at all
It seems Ilon Musk’s “bad feeling” of the U.S. economy has pushed back plans to produce the cheapest electric car Tesla: if last year this topic was actively speculated about, now there is silence. And what will this “cheap” electric car be like now, if the Model 3 has gone up in price by $10,000 in the U.S. since the beginning of the year? Meanwhile, what Tesla fails, the Chinese manage quite well. BYD has a cheap five-seat electric car with a decent range that’s almost ready.
The model called Seagull is already being tested with all its might in China. According to the source, the official premiere may take place this month or in July. The price of the basic version will be around $12,000. Spies have spotted the BYD Seagull in camouflage in China, but there is already an image of how the production model will look (picture above).
Four doors, full five seats, a pair of screens inside (one in the instrument cluster, the other on the center panel), multifunction steering wheel, driving assistants – Seagull though will be inexpensive, but definitely not Spartan. The slightly larger BYD Dolphin electric car is expected to share its components with the Seagull. The Dolphin is equipped with 95 and 175 hp electric motors and has a range of 301-405 km, depending on the version.
Seagull is a seagull in translation from English. This car was in the USSR, it was produced simultaneously with the “Moskvich” and “Volga”. According to the latest information, the Volgas and the Pobedas can be revived in Russia. The revival of the “Chaika” is out of the question, but formally it has a successor – the Aurus Senat. Maybe it’s time to return the “Senate” to its historical name?
